The Night Watch
Anthony Holborne (1545 - 1602)
The Night Watch
Holborne's piece is about the waits, or watchmen who kept vigil over the night, and served also as the town bandsmen.
In ancient times, fire was a great peril, as were house-breakers, and the night watch were a valuble set of ears and eyes. Holborne arranged this piece for many combinations of instruments as needs
demanded. In this performance, the consort is mixed, with two recorders on top and two bass viols below.
Rodolpho Guzman : soprano recorder
Michael Roy: alto recorder
Lynn Baumel: bass viol I
Jone Vaughn: bass viol II
