I Sing a Song of the Saints of God

An Englishwoman, Lesbia Scott, wrote the lyrics for this hymn in 1929: she was especially known for her children's songs. The hymn tune was written in 1940 by Rev. Henry Hopkins, and is known by its historic name, "Grand Isle," which is off the Vermont coast. The hymn is not well-known in England or by the Anglican Church, but is beloved by American Episcopalians, and is heard all year round, but especially on All Saints Day. MR arranged this hymn on All Hallow's Eve, and orchestrated and recorded it on All Saints Day, Nov. 1, 2020. Jan sings the hymn, one of her favorites, and one she sang with her students and fellow teachers during her 25-year career as a first grade teacher at St. Thomas Episcopal Church School. It was posted on Facebook on Nov. 2. MR plays tenor recorder.
